Treating Trauma and Phobias
What is Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)?
ART is an evidence based treatment for PTSD, traumatic events, phobias, anxiety and depression. This treatment uses smooth bilaterial (back and forth) eye movements to engage the brain and help to process out negative sensations, emotions and images that are triggered when remembering a traumatic event or being exposed to or thinking about a fear or phobia.
What types of things can ART help with?
I have used ART in my practice to treat PTSD, Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and Phobias. Some phobias I have treated with ART are fear of public speaking, fear of driving, fear of flying, fear of needles, fear of medical and dental procedures, fear of vomiting and fear of dogs. I have also used ART to aid my clients who had feelings of low self esteem, relationship difficulties and difficulty with decision-making.
How long does treatment with ART take?
ART is administered during a therapy session and typically takes one hour. It may take between one and five sessions to resolve a single trauma or phobia. For more persistent diagnoses such as depression, OCD and substance use, more frequent ART sessions may be necessary and you may be seen twice weekly for these types of concerns. After treatment with ART, clients often report feeling calm, free, relaxed, empowered, energetic and hopeful.
More Information About ART
ART was created in 2008 by Laney Rosenzweig, a therapist who was trained in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR). Laney found that she could achieve more desirable results, more quickly using her approach combined with the eye movements and that is how ART came to be.
